“The rye is the best I've had outside my grandmother's kitchen. I buy two on Saturday and freeze one so I'm not stuck on Monday.”

“Get there early on weekends or the cardamom buns are gone. Whoever is at the counter remembers your order by the second visit.”

“Ordered a lemon-raspberry cake for my daughter's birthday. It was ready at the side window on time, written exactly right, and gone in ten minutes.”

Two bakers and one stone-deck oven on Juniper Street

Mara and Teo Halvorsen mix, shape and bake everything sold here, starting each night while the street is asleep.

The dough for tomorrow's bread goes in the walk-in before we close, and the first loaves come out before the door opens. Nothing is shipped in or baked from frozen.

We keep the menu short so we can make it well, and change the galettes and the cake flavors with the season.

Before you order a cake or stop by

How far ahead do I order a custom cake?

Three days ahead for our regular flavors, a week for tiered or decorated cakes. Order at the counter or by phone, and tell us the name and message to write.

Do you have gluten-free or allergy-friendly options?

We make a flourless chocolate cake and almond cookies with no wheat in the recipe. Everything is baked in one kitchen with wheat, nuts, eggs and dairy, so we can't promise anything is safe for celiac or severe allergies. Ask at the counter for the ingredient list.

Can I pre-order bread for Saturday?

Yes. Order by Thursday at closing and your loaves and cakes wait for you at the side window on Saturday morning, so you skip the line. Pay when you pick up.

Do you serve coffee, or sell bread to cafés?

We pour drip coffee and espresso from a local roaster, to go or at the window bench. For wholesale bread orders, email us; we supply a few cafés in town.
